Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro late on Friday challenged his US counterpart Barack Obama to hold "high-level talks," in the context of the political divide between the two countries.
"I call for dialogue with you, President Obama. I call for dialogue between the patriot, revolutionary Venezuela and the United States and its Government. Take the challenge. Let us launch high-level talks and put the truth on the table," said Maduro at a press conference with foreign journalists at the presidential palace of Miraflores.
"I then propose a comprehensive dialogue. Let us appoint ambassadors, no matter if they are endorsed yet, and let us sit down and talk," he remarked.
